In 2010 I worked with PS and used macros in batch processing images. After one image had been processed it was safed and the next image was processed till the end of the batch. I now (June 2023) started with macros in Affinity2, but am not able to record the safe / export command in a macro, nor can I do any batch processing. Corel PaintShop Pro 2023 does this and might be a good example for the Affinity developers team. Hope that in the next update this is implemented. Batch rename, Batch process, safe command in macro.

As you've noted, that's not possible today, but you're not the only person asking for this.

Today all you can do is create a macro to do the processing that is needed for a single image, and then run that macro as part of a batch job:

  1. After you have the macro, Save it to the Library.
  2. File > New Batch Job, then select the images you need to process, and the output format and options.
  3. Specify the macro(s) you want to run.
  4. Run the batch job, which will apply the macro(s) to all the files and create output files for you.

Thanks for your reply Walt. I followed your instructions and am happy with the result. Basically it was what I was looking for. I have a multi layered EXR-file from V-ray and proces it with a few actions, safe the file as .afphoto and proces the a bit more and then export the file as a PNG. I can do this too with 2 batch sessions. In the end I am happy I can automate processing hundreds of multi layered EXR-files for animation purposes.
