I process thousands of 360 Pano images taken in 3 brackets. I had to return to the dark side and sub to Adobe to get the batch processing abilities of Lightroom but their HDR merge is utter rubbish compared to  that in Affinty Photo, with the latter producing far superior neutral results. Yes I have set Lightroom to not apply any affects to the results, just to merge a basic HDR, but it often produces horrid colour grades nigh on impossible to fix in a sensible timeframe.

Is it at all possible to automate the stacking and HDR merging of images in AP2?

For reference in LR, you can pick hundreds of images and stack them by time so all images within say 2 seconds of each other are stacked. These stacks can then be batch HDR merged.

A single project of ours can have hundreds of setups with 15 images (5 stacks) each soon running into thousand. Doing them one by one in AP2 is simply not viable.

No, it's a manual operation.

Perhaps, when it's available, the planned scripting support will allow something, but Serif isn't providing any details yet.

Correct. It is not.

Hope it comes available soon.

I did an HDR merge and the out of the box image was stunning. Better than Lightroom or Lumen.

So sad to see I can't batch them. There's no way I'm doing each photo individually. I would have purchased if this feature was available. I guess I'll keep my lightroom subscription instead. Very sad.
