There's an odd behaviour I've encountered numerous times with the brush tool but never took the time to figure out what was actually going on. Essentially if you are using the brush tool and the fill and stroke colours in the colour panel are transparent you can't set the brush colour from the colour panel, using the colour wheel or picker. You must use the brush colour well located in the top toolbar. You can however use the brush set the transparent and the assistant will indeed create a layer for you to draw on using the transparent colour.

Once I've set the colour from the top toolbar colour well I can then usually set it from the colour panel as expected. Ideally I should be able to set the brush colour from any colour well available.

This is a slightly tricky bug to reproduce, but I've had it happen enough times, and it's become annoying enough that I've tried to describe the ways in which it appears for me.

I'm struggling to reproduce this.  With both Colour Wells set to transparent, i can change the colour on the Colour panel.  Could you see if your able to get a screen recording of the issue and i'll have another go at replicating it :)

@stokerg here's a few screen recordings show the issue described above along with related issues.

The first video shows both of the colour panel colour wells as transparent, but the brush toolbar colour well is set to a dark grey. Drawing with the brushes causes the assistant to create a new bitmap layer as expected, but the colour used is transparent, taking the colour from the colour panel and not the brush toolbar.

The next video shows how it's not possible to set the brush colour from the colour panel colour wheel, but as soon as you attempt to draw with the brush, the brush colour well goes from black to mid-grey and then works as expected (with the wrong colour). Here the colour is sort of taken from the brush toolbar, but it is not the colour that was initially set there.

Lastly, this video shows how setting the brush toolbar colour well to transparent will consistently crash the application, either when set or when you begin to draw.

Hi @rgba,

I've replicated all 3 issues now.

For the 2nd video, where you can't change the colour, if you look at the Layers panel, do you have a layer/stroke selected further down the Layers Panel?  This is a known bug that's already with the Developers to fix :)

@stokerg Yes and no. There is a solid stroke defined with a weight of 0 (see below), but it's a pixel brush (I'm in pixel persona) and the size is defined using the px slider at the bottom left. If I remove the stroke completely there is still no change in behaviour.
