Create new nodes on shapes in Affinity Photo?

Recommended Posts

I created a triangle that I want to convert into a polygon with some curved edges by adding new nodes (so I can transform it). Is that possible?

There are many ways of accomplishing what I want if I rasterize the triangle, but I like what the blend mode is doing and would rather do it the way I'm asking.

TIA

You cannot add nodes to a Shape, but you can use the Layer menu to Convert to Curves. After that it's still vector, but you can add nodes or modify/move existing ones.

Just selecting the triangle shape with the Move Tool or Node Tool active & in the Context Toolbar clicking on "Convert to Curves" does not do what you want?

EDIT: Walt beat me to it by a few seconds!

But you had a better suggestion of using the Context Toolbar :)

Different but not particularly better. Using the Layer menu has the advantage of providing a keyboard shortcut so it is just a matter of choice.

You're working with a Pixel layer, not a Triangle, if I'm reading your screenshot that includes the Layers panel correctly.

You’re right, it is a pixel layer. What kind of layer should it be on?

Sorry to be naive, but i thought all layers other than mask, adjustment, or those other processes (the ones with sharpening, etc.) are pixel layers?

Vectors (like you make with the Pen Tool) & so-called Quick Shapes (triangles, rectangles, etc.) are defined in geometrical terms not by pixels so they are not pixel layers.

Also check out the Layer Types section of the About Layers help topic for a little more about this.

Live filter. Couldn’t think what they’re called! :)

Okay, so I need to put it in a vector layer. Thanks.

I think this is the second time I’ve used a vector since in the 1-1/2 years using the program. The only other time was text on a path, which I used to make a sign for a protest demonstration last summer. :)

It does seem weird that you can create and resize a vector graphic on a pixel layer but not create nodes.

??? Vectors & pixels are always on different layers, although you can fill a vector shape with a bitmap pattern.
