Hi everyone,

Another really basic question.
I am using a template for a book and I want to add a Table of Contents.
I know how to do this in MS WORD but on my Publisher the Heading 1, Heading 2 options seem to be missing. I have watched videos where the person sets up the TOC and it seems  obvious apart from the Heading 1 as I don't seem to have that. I presume this is caused by the template I am using.

How can I add Heading 1 and 2 etc so I can populate the TOC?

Thanks in advance

It could be that your Template has those Text Styles removed.

You could:

  1. Start a new Publisher document from scratch.
  2. Save it as a .afpub file.
  3. In the file where the Text Styles are missing, click on the panel options (3-bar icon) for the Text Styles panel, and one of the options will let you import Text Styles from a document. Choose the one you saved in step 2.

Edit: No, this doesn't work. The style is applied, but the Text Style does not come with it.
Or, I think this might work, too:

  1. In your new document, after step 1, create some text using the Heading styles you want to use. Select and Copy that text.
  2. In the file where they're missing, select some text. Then use Edit > Paste Style.

Here's another that does work:

  1. In your new document, after step 1 above, create some text using the Heading Text Styles you want to use. Select and Copy that text.
  2. Paste the text into your file where the Text Styles are missing. The styled text will be pasted, and their Text Styles will also be copied into the document, where you can use them for other text.
  3. Delete the text you just pasted, which you don't need.

In addition to the options Walt provided, you can create heading text styles in your document (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.). Heading text styles don’t have to be imported or copied from another document in order to qualify for inclusion in the TOC.

If you import the default heading text styles from another document, you’ll likely want to edit the styles, so it may be just as easy to create the styles from scratch.

If you have used Text Styles then you can select the Paragraph Style that is the equivalent to "Heading 1" and use that in the ToC panel or you can just rename your used Paragraph Style to Heading 1.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
