Wrong characters on different languages

Recommended Posts

I'm working on Affinity Designer, but the issue is replicated in all products, at least on Mac.

When copying a text in certain languages (Telugu in this case) and paste it on Designer, some characters change, and this is really frustrating, specially if you don't know the language.

I'm using a font that should show the characters properly (Noto Serif Telugu, Kohinoor Telugu, among others) and I tried to change the language of the spelling, typography script, typography language, but it didn't work.

If I paste the same text in other apps like notes or pages, the characters show correctly.

Some time ago Microsoft had a similar issue and the cause was "the vowel matra blocks the reordering of ra." This might help to resolve the issue.

If someone knows how to solve this, it will be really great for us!

The Affinity applications have many issues with Indic languages, including Telugu, as you can see from a forum search: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&q=Telugu&quick=1

I don't know if these are considered bugs, or just areas that need improvement. Nor do I know if this specific one has been reported already. The Serif staff will know.

Hi @jarcon,

Thanks for your report.

This is technically logged as a bug with our developers to add support for these languages in a future update, though as we're yet to officially support these, some issues are expected at this time.

I will be sure to 'bump' the development report with your thread now, but unfortunately we cannot offer any timescale for when such languages will be officially supported, my apologies.

I hope this clears things up!
