Bear2 Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Hi, Can a design with text be saved as editable when reopened in V2,if it can could someone explain how to please Many thanks Quote
GarryP Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Welcome to the forums @Bear2 When you save to an AFDESIGN, AFPHOTO, or AFPUB file – the native file formats for the Affinity applications – text will be saved as editable text unless you have specifically/accidentally done something to make it non-editable. (There are lots of ways to make text non-editable as text.) If you export to a non-Affinity file format then the text might not be editable as text but that will depend on the file format. If you can give us an example of the problem – e.g. full-screen screenshot, and maybe the document itself – we will be able to help you better understand what’s happened. Quote
v_kyr Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Welcome! Not entirely sure what you mean here, since if you create text (Artistic text or Frame text) in any Affinity product and keep that as is (as Artistic/Frame text and so don't rasterize, or convert to curves) and save the doc as an Affinity file format, then it's always editable afterwards when reopened. For other exported formats you have to use some applicable vector format which preserves the text as to be editable, so things like PDF, SVG etc. As raster/bitmap formats don't support that and the Adobe PSD format as Affinity treats it (parser/generator wise) doesn't support to save and keep the text editable here. Bear2 Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Thanks, so do I just use the save as option and include history if I want to Quote
GarryP Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Under most circumstances, if you use “File → Save” you will overwrite the existing document in its original format. For example, if you open an AFDESIGN document and Save you will overwrite that AFDESIGN document, and you will be able to open it with the layers intact. Similarly, if you open a JPG image and Save it then you will be overwriting that JPG image and everything in the document will be rasterised/flattened with no layers intact and all text non-editable as text. (You get the option to Save As instead.) When you use “File → Save As” you will save the current document as a new Affinity document (either AFDESIGN, AFPHOTO, or AFPUB, as appropriate for the application you are using) with the layers intact. You can only save the History – if you need to – with an Affinity document. Quote
Bear2 Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Document is created from scratch in AFPHOTO Quote
GarryP Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 If you saved the document as an AFPHOTO document then, when you open that document, the text should be editable as text unless: the text wasn’t actually text – e.g. it was imported from somewhere else and it’s an image, or; you converted it from text in some way, possibly accidentally. If you can show us a full-screen screenshot, as suggested earlier, with the ‘problem layer’ selected in the Layers Panel (which is also visible) we will have more information to help you with - or share the document with us and tell us which layer you are having problems with.
