Hi

I'm not sure if I'm missing something but in photoshop, if I want to create light rays i can do this by creating a new layer, applying white multi brush size dabs and applying the motion blur set to zoom. I can't at the moment seem to find a way to create the same in affinity photo. I see a zoom in the blur filter list but this does not seem to work in the same way and does not seem to give you any real control over using the  effect, in fact the effect seems to be very limited. Tell me if I'm missing something or if I need to create the same effect control some other way please?

Hi Raymondo,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Although this tutorial doesn't use a blur filter it explains how to create light beams with Affinity Photo.

There's also other tutorials cover different tools you might use to create similar effects like the Lighting Filter.

For a complete list of the tutorials available check this thread.

Hi Raymondo,

I think, you're right. This method doesn't work well.

But there are other methods.

I provided a tutorial.

Perhaps it helps or gives you another idea.

Hi

Thanks all for the contribution to my post. However I always feel the blur filter has a limitation and does not have the capability to blur enough for me. The light rays which you both show, and I say this from my point of view, do not look realistic enough for my creative purpose. Until the motion blur filter can have the ability to create a true zoom and thus multi light rays, I will clearly have to continue to use Photoshop. The processes which you both show in your tutorials are for me too long winded and don't have enough control over the blur effect due to the limited effect of the blur filter. I have tried the lighting filter but again using this process is too long winded and doesn't create enough control or realism. I don't feel I could currently use these filters to create light to vehicle headlight or any other light source for instance. I am fully supporting this software but at the moment there are creative limitations with it that stop me being able to use it fully. Hopefully, Affinity Photo will in the near future improve on the motion blur filters capability to match that of Photoshop and perhaps you might like to consider putting this on your list of areas to expand or improve on.
