David in Mississippi Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 In Designer (and I think also in Photo) v.2.1, when I use the color picker eyedropper in the Color Studio, the color being displayed in the magnified area and in the color picker swatch does NOT display the color under the cursor, but instead displays a color about halfway between the cursor and the eyedropper icon in the Color Studio. The same thing happened with v.2.0, before I upgraded to 2.1. This does not happen with the Color Picker TOOL (on the toolbar), but only when using the eyedropper from the Color studio, which is usually displayed in the "Right Hand" studio. Here's an annotated screenshot of what I mean: In the image above (and attached, I hope), you should see the color picker selection magnifier hovering over white-and-blue text, which SHOULD make white and/or blue colors appear inside the magnifier. However, the magnifier shows only the medium-dark grey color of the off-image background area about halfway between the magnifier and the eyedropper icon/swatch. In every color picker video I watch, the tutors color picker seems to work as it should. This leads me to believe I have done something wrong to cause this, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make it work as it should. What am I missing? Did I somehow corrupt my installation. Thanks so much for any help you can offer. Quote
Dan C Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Hi @David in Mississippi, Thanks for your report and screenshot provided! I can see that the values the colour picker shows below the loupe appear to be correct (255,255,255 ie white), though it's actually showing this colour as the grey from the apps background, which is incorrect. This may be caused by your current Windows display colour settings - can you please open Windows Run (Windows Key + R) then paste the following string and press OK: colorcpl In the window that opens, please take a screenshot of this, then attach the screenshot to your reply here. Secondly, under Edit > Settings > Colour within Affinity, what are your settings here please? Many thanks in advance! Quote
David in Mississippi Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Thank you for the response, @Dan C. Here is the screenshot of the colorcpl dialog: Do you need the "All Profiles" and "Advanced" tabs as well? Then you asked: On 5/24/2023 at 10:11 AM, Dan C said: Secondly, under Edit > Settings > Colour within Affinity, what are your settings here please? They are all the default settings from the initial installation (and upgrade to v.2.1): ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The color picker swatch (beside the eyedropper) does not reflect the color indicateed by the RGB tooltip (white in the first post screenshot), but reflects only the color within the magnified area. As you can tell, this is quite a perplexing issue, and I would love to get it solved. If you can help, it would be wonderful. Thanks and take care! Quote
Dan C Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Many thanks for providing those for me - you may want to set the sRGB profile within Windows Settings for your monitor (as below), though technically this shouldn't be required so I'm not confident this will change the behaviour. # In regards to the other information provided, everything seems to be correct so there is no clear cause of this thus far - I assume this happens in any document, or only the one shown in your example? I would recommend ensuring that your Intel UHD 630 drivers are fully up-to-date, directly from Intels website as I've seen outdated drivers causing unexplained issues previously: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/download/762755/intel-6th-10th-gen-processor-graphics-windows.html?wapkw=uhd 630 Equally, within Affinity under Edit > Settings > Performance, if Hardware Acceleration is active, please disable this and restart the app. Does this change the experienced behaviour please? Finally, if the above steps do not help, it's possible that the application needs resetting to default settings to resolve this. You can reset your app back to its default settings by holding down the CTRL key while launching the app. When the Clear User Data window appears, click Affinity Designer 2 to enable all of the top section options and then click Clear. The app will now open. Please do let me know how you get on here Quote
