rchrdnsh
I want to be able to create one shape that spans more than one artboard. Is this possible in AFD? Thank you :-)
A_B_C
Unfortunately, you cannot have an object clipped to more than one artboard. This is due to the current layers logic. Please have a look at this discussion concerning the tree-like structure of documents: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/14652-affinity-designer-customer-beta-1357/?p=65587 Hope that helps … :) Alex
R C-R
You can create objects that span more than one artboard, but like A_B_C mentioned, the parent/child logic of the layers model means that the object must either be a child of just one of the artboards (& thus clipped to its dimensions) or on a layer not in any artboard (& thus not print or export as a part of any artboard). An 'artboard-less' object might be helpful for snapping or as some kind of visual guide, but otherwise would not be of much use. To create the effect of one object spanning multiple artboards, you could copy an 'artboard-less' one multiple times, & then move a copy into each artboard. JGD
I'm writing here as well to bump this thread. I really, really do not like this behaviour, as it feels more like a bug/baseless limitation based on a wrong choice by the Serif team than any of the other quirks in Affinity apps. Check this post for details:
Friksel
Not sure where you need the artboards for, but if you use the artboards to define regions for exports, you could use slices in the export persona (see attachment) and export the slices. cadobir
I’d find it very useful if objects, including guides and grids, could span artboards. Perhaps guides and grids could exist independently of artboards, and artboards could snap to a base grid.
