Interface improvement for Stroke option in AD

The current view of stroke element pointer in the toolbar of AD for me is critically uncomfortable.

It's possible to make this like in the my picture?

That pop-up is for making quick changes to the Stroke.
Have you tried using the Stroke Panel instead?

Personally, I think that the stroke style (dashed line, vector brush) is very useful - and should remain in the context toolbar.
 

It's a pity that the displayed stroke width value is dead/inactive and cannot be edited directly (for example, using mouse scroll as with other editing fields).

Since stroke width is set most often, direct editing in the context toolbar would certainly be beneficial.

If it is of any help, 2.1 has implemented shortcuts for adjusting the stroke width.

It's very unuseful. And to be honest, it's constantly annoying to have to make an extra click. I want to change the width of stroke using the mouse wheel without any clicks.

You can change the width of the Stroke via the Stroke Panel with the mouse wheel, without any mouse clicks.
Just hover the mouse over the Width input field and flick the mouse wheel forwards or backwards as necessary.

note that as an alternative you can use the [ and ] keys on the keyboard depending on the tool you have selected (and those keys can be customized if needed)

Yes, but you must have the Stroke panel displayed. Since there is already an item with stroke width on the Context Toolbar (if it would allow editing), another useful panel could be displayed instead. It would be a shame not to make this item active (to allow direct editing of the value), thus simplifying and speeding up the change of stroke width without the need to constantly display the Stroke panel.

It's unuseful too, because usually I using color panel, and for change of stroke width I want make additional click and click back.

While I don’t think having a slider directly inside the Context Bar would be a good idea – it would possibly have to be too short (with future additions to the Context Bar in mind) to be useful – I think being able to modify the Stroke Width in the same way as we modify Font Size when editing text might be a useful addition. Maybe with a drop-down list as with Font Size, or with a pop-up slider as per the Corner Tool Radius control.

The existing ‘preview button’ could still be a way to get the larger pop-up as currently, but having the Width as a field that works similarly to the Font Size field seems reasonable to me.

However, I would say that some judicious Studio management could probably help here. In other words, for example, if you find that you are ‘constantly’ switching between the Colour Panel and Stroke Panel then you can (temporarily?) put them one on top of the other in the Right Studio so that both are always available, as per my screenshot. It only takes a second to drag them like that, and a second to drag them back again, hardly a Sisyphean task.

Yeah, something like that might be okay as long as it wasn’t too sensitive for someone like me with clumsy hands and a cheap mouse.

I don’t know what you mean by that.

And, I don’t know how that is relevant to what the OP wants as it works the same way as the Context Bar does at the moment – you need to click and then change things – which is what they do not want.

Did you see my proposal?

P.S. Serif does not have to invent anything new - it is enough if it uses the same element for the stroke width value as for the rounded corners value.

I think we might be starting to argue about suggesting the same thing now.
We have both suggested the same things but sometimes in different ways.

Drop-down list, pop-up slider, drag the bar; all are fine with me; I just don’t think a slider directly inside the Context Bar would be good because of possible future additions to it.

Sorry but I still don’t know what you mean – what’s a “resize bar”?

As far as I can tell, the method of changing the Stroke Width in the Text Frame Panel is the same as that currently used in the Context Bar, and that’s what the OP doesn’t want.

You already suggested that, and I acknowledged it, and said it sounded like a reasonable idea.
Then you started talking about Text Frames, which eventually led to the same thing.

This discussion is starting to get too confusing for me so I think I’ll leave it here.

??? Try scrolling the wheel above the edit field - as OP requested in previous post ("I want to change the width of stroke using the mouse wheel without any clicks").
Or click directly to edit the field, without the need to click to expand the pulldown panel.

If you drop this panel in the 2nd row, it will take up an unreasonable amount of vertical space on a small monitor. In my opinion, the best solution would be to give the option to add a small width edit box in the top panel customization option.
