Hello. I've been using affinity for a few years and there is a recurring problem in the Publisher program when it comes to laying out the texts. When I layout in several columns and you have to cut the words with hyphens, you place these breaking the Spanish words by letters that are not correct. For example, the word carnage places the hyphen in this way carnagería, when it would have to cut the entire syllable. I have tried to put the dictionary in French and other languages but it gives the same error as in Spanish. Any solution?

Bear in mind that my Spanish is limited to, "Dos cervezas por favor" I depend on online translation
Carnage translated to carnicería and if I put that into Publisher I get either carnice-ría or car-nicería
What's the correct hyphenation please?

Hi @Zumo Creativos. I think the translation of your post is confusing the issue. Which word is being hyphenated incorrectly? Is it carnagería or carnicería?

If it's carnicería, I believe the correct hyphenation is car~ni~ce~ría. I tried using this word in Affinity and it is hyphenating that way for me. How is it hyphenating for you?

Are you using macOS or Windows?

Cheers

You didn't say what version of Publisher you're using.

There were some acknowledged problems with the hyphenation and/or spelling dictionary for Spanish that is supplied with V1 and with 2.0.4. They've shipped revised Spanish dictionaries in 2.1.0 to improve that processing.

That's mentioned under Features and Improvements in the Release Notes:

Do you / someone know whether the German dictionary got improved, too? The linked release notes list only "Spanish Hyphenation Dictionary updated" – whereas this thread mentioned issues and examples for Spanish and German:

macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

Sorry, I don't. But if they only announced Spanish that's probably all they improved.

You could run a diff between the German dictionaries shipped in 2.1 and those shipped in 2.0 or 1.10, perhaps.
