Most forum posts report issues. Just as important to report successes too.

I have managed to create a 300-page book with 40 chapters and fully index it. Indexing was a bit shaky to start with but I discovered it is less likely to crash if I save the chapter I'm indexing and the book, before updating the index. This is especially true if I try to edit one of the index entries by renaming it. Only thing that I have noticed is that the exported PDF have links for TOC entries but not for index ones. That might be me though.

The page numbers in the Index are links, for me. They are not styled as links, but I'm sure they could be, though I'm a bit surprised they aren't styled by default.

Here's a sample: index-test.pdf

index-test.zip (this one is the 2.1 beta .afpub file, which the forum would not let me unload as a normal .afpub file)

That’s really interesting. I’m doing a recipe book at the moment. Both TOC and Index. I’ll have to watch out for what you mention.
I’m doing it in the latest Release, but might do a copy now in the Beta. I’ve been looking for a project to do in the Bera that would really stretch it.

thanks for posting.

Hi Walt - on my Mac, opening the PDF in Acrobat or Preview, the pointer is replaced by a pointing hand on some but not all index page numbers, but it does not jump to the page that is indicated. Something is not quite right. Unfortunately I cannot share the PDF file as it will be subject to publishing rights.

It jumps to one of the other pages of the index!

I'm not personally worried, as this will be printed only book. But it is useful feedback.

That sounds odd, @cwoodhou. If you can't share it here, you may need to wait for Serif staff to get to this topic and provide a private upload link so they can investigate it.

If you're indexing a book, it's best to index it with the 2.1 beta and not with 2.0.4. A couple of book + index bugs have been fixed for 2.1.

Thanks for the heads up. Working on it now.

Sorry Gabe - I cannot share. I have had a book pirated before publication before and simply cannot take the risk, however small.  There was a new Beta last night and I will see if it makes a difference. I can perhaps video the process of creating the PDF and the outcome, which will show the fault behavior. It will take me a day to prepare it. There are about 300 illustrations in this book, so it gives the process a good workout.

I see. I don't know how much a video would help in this case, as we would really need the files to see what's going on. If it does happen again with a file you can share with us(staff) please let us know and we can send another upload link.

The latest beta did not correct it.

As some issues could be me after all, I have shown what I have been doing in a short video that I posted on the dropbox link.

I will try to create a dummy file and try and reproduce the issue, which I can then share.

I just tried it with my book which has hundreds of index entries and couldn't duplicate it.

Is there any pattern as to which index marks aren't right? I thought it might be See Also type links but those were fine for me, too. I didn't try grouped page ranges as I don't have those. I also have expand cross ref turned off. Could you share a screenshot of your index panel settings?

Mike - thanks for the feedback. I have tried with and without Expand cross references enabled. No difference.

I'm not doing anything fancy, just adding in index entries with most nested under a group sub heading. I have Include Section headings and group page ranges enabled. The rest of the settings are the character styles.
