aloach
Is there a tool for combining shapes together to create totally new shapes?
Staff MEB Posted June 30, 2014 Staff Share Posted June 30, 2014 As far as i know you can only create/combine shapes using boolean operations (the second row of buttons counting from the right). Select two overlapping shapes and click on those buttons (the tooltips say what action they will perform). aloach
Thanks. I can't seem to quite create what i'd like from them. For example, i'd like to create a yin yang shape by combining the areas marked X
Staff MEB Posted June 30, 2014 Staff Share Posted June 30, 2014 Here's a way to get there: Instead of using a full circle (the larger one) use just half. First you will have to convert it to curves (select the large circle then go to Layer menu -> Convert to curves). Then delete one of the nodes to make an half-circle. From there you can figure the rest. After you have completed the half of the yin yang shape (step four on this image) just duplicate it and flip it in both directions (horizontal and vertical) and place it in position using snapping. yin yang shape.afdesign Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference

Lenzflair
How do you get the straight edge to make the half circle please?
Staff MEB Posted July 2, 2014 Staff Share Posted July 2, 2014 Select the Node Tool and press ALT while you click over the control handles (not the node itself) that control the part of the curvature you want to straight up. They will retract (disappear) and you will get the straight edge. Hope i'm being clear :) Let me know if you still have trouble. Lenzflair
Thanks for that it took a couple of tries but got there in the end
Nichod
I still think it would be a good idea to add a shape builder. It's a fast way to mock up logos, and both Serif Draw / Illustrator have it. It allows for the creation of some complex forms that aren't easily possible with normal boolean operations. Codename Capri
I also would very appreciate a shape builder tool like in Illustrator. One can simply create some basic shapes and connect overlapping areas to create complex shapes. That would be a great timesaver!
