Weird Issue - Content Migrating to Master Pages from Pages?

Recommended Posts

So I'm making my first project, and I've had a weird issue pop up in the last day. I'm formatting a novel in Publisher 2, so I've got - for the moment, a very basic layout.

I've got two master pages - a two page-spread for the beginning of each chapter, and then a basic master for the content of the chapter.

The problem becomes...sometimes body content will start appearing on the master pages? I've thrown in some Alice in Wonderland text to demonstrate.

It seems to happen at random points, so I can't see a mistake I'm doing over and over - added to the fact that it's jumping onto the "wrong" master page, not even the one the text was pasted into (so it doesn't seem like a linked element?) has me very confused.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to this forum.

Could you upload an example file for us to examine?

That would help a lot.

Just a guess: You may be confused about what page is active when you're pasting. When you navigate using the Pages panel, make sure you double-click on a page to select it to be active. And check the navigation bar (lower left, next to status bar) to see what page is truly active.

If you only single-click on a page in the Pages panel, the page will be "current" only for operations in the Pages panel itself, not for editing in the workspace.

If this indeed is the case then also the page number is an obvious, easy indicator when a Master page is the active page in the layout window: it shows the # instead of digits. – Then it might also help to temporarily increase the size/colour of the page number text style.

All sorts of possible explanations spring to mind. But without an example document there is only going to be random suggestions which may not apply at all.

Are there text frames on the Master page and are they linked.

The text appears to have paragraph returns at the end of each line. Meaning each line is a paragraph, not each Paragraph is a paragraph.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

… together with the left indent I wonder if this is editable text indeed (– or placed containers ?, e.g. PDF) while the blue boxes don't belong too the text objects? Note the vertical position of the text first lines, in the screenshots apparently starting ON the edge of a semi-transparent (?) bounding box (?).
