evtonic3 Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Working in passed along to me pdf, and when I export but rename the file, the name does not update in the title bar of the doc. Would be nice to see the new name once it's been renamed. Quote

That is because you are working on a Document named Alpha, the export is a separate Document. You may want to use File > Save As... this will give you a new Affinity Document named Alpha number 2. And you can export that and the default export name will be Alpha number 2. MikeTO Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 I agree that renaming an open file should update the name of the document in Affinity but unfortunately Affinity doesn't handle files in quite the same way as most apps. Renaming a file in Finder while it's open in Affinity is not a good idea. Also, if you have a file in Recent Items and delete it while the document is not open, and rename another file to the same name, bad things might happen. I have to do this regularly due to the issues with iCloud. I'll be working on File1.afpub and when saving the connection to the file will be lost and I'll save it as File2.afpub. If I close the file, delete File1, and rename File2 to File1, bad things might happen. So each time I rename a file this way I clear my Recent menu to avoid issues. As I understand it, like @Old Bruce mentioned, if you export an open file you are creating a new document, not updating the open one you are exporting it from. It would be confusing if it updated the name of the 'parent' document to take on the name of the exported version, which could have an entirely different & unrelated name, like say "My PDF export." If you want it to display a different name you would need to SAVE it (as Affinity file) instead of exporting it (as PDF). Alternatively you can OPEN the previously exported PDF which show the new name.. Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
