You may not consider this as a bug, but when I copy and paste a paragraph from Illustrator to Affinity Designer, the paragraph turns to broken lines. This becomes a big problem when I have a many paragraphs.

Is there any option to group lines of text into text frame after pasting?

(I know we have this option when we want to import a file)

I don't have Illustrator so I can't test with it but I have Photoshop and can't duplicate the problem with that app. Do you have Photoshop and can you try it with that for comparison?

Are you using Windows or macOS?

If you bold a word is that formatting pasted or is it coming through as plain text?

Hi MikeTo.

I use macOS.

If I copy a paragraph(with frame) or paragraphs from Photoshop, Affinity Designer doesn't paste that. If I bold a word from Illustrator, Affinity recognize that and paste it.

What happens if you copy a paragraph from Illustrator and paste into a plain text editor instead of pasting into Designer? If Illustrator is copying it as a paragraph, it should become one long line in the text editor (assuming you don't have any view wrapping options set in the editor). If it becomes multiple lines, then either you don't really have a paragraph (just separate lines) or Illustrator isn't providing them as a paragraph when copying.

Are you copying the frame or selecting text in the frame to copy? Don't copy the frame, who knows how Illustrator is storing that on the pasteboard, instead select text and copy that.

If you copy selected text it should work fine.

Yes. I copied the frames. I hoped that I can find an option inside Affinity Designer that can group the lines of text into text frame after pasting.

Did you try copying the text, instead, and pasting that?

In your screenshots: I'm very confused that if you copied the text that TextEdit would paste it as a PNG file. That feels wrong.

Well it is coming from Adobe Illustrator and who knows what has been done to, or with, the text in that application. Could be that Illustrator is copying according to some strange internal rule. Adobe doesn't play well with others.

Another thing to consider is whether or not @BBG3 has any sort of clipboard utility or other third party utilities installed.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I did copy the text instead of pasting the frame. It was weird that it pasted an image inside TextEdit app. (the second image)

That happens to Notes app too.

This has apparently been an issue for many years, Adobe's assumption is that if you are copying text from Illustrator that you intend to paste it in Illustrator (not in anyway short sighted)...

There are numerous posts online about workarounds all of which are ridiculous for something so basic...

Out of interest, have you tried physically selecting the text using the text tool (so the text is highlighted), copying it and then in Designer using the Paste Without Format option or in Text Edit the Paste and Match Style option.

I don't know if that will make any difference but give that a go if you've not already tried that...
