In vector persona (Affinity Designer), I want to use the Pen Tool to create a curve, the apply a vector brush to the curve in order to create a "tied rope" effect. Something like in the attached image.

Before I spend more time trying to figure out how to do this, am I going down the right path? Is it possible to apply a vector brush (assuming I can find the right one) to a curve?  Haven't had success with this so far, so want to make sure I'm not going down the wrong path. Thx.

Affinity supports so-called 'vector brushes' which stretch or repeat a raster image along a vector path. You can create your own 'vector brush' if a suitable one cannot be found.

The problem is where the rope alternates between over and under itself. A solution utilising a duplicate curve with reversed direction is attached.
