biophilic_designer Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Hello I am really new to Affinity. About a month ago I bought a new macbook and decided to switch from Adobe CS6 (illustrator, photoshop and InDesign) to the Affinity package. Most functions are the same. And I already discovered some nice features that I didn't have before. But I have some issues that makes working with Affinity Designer very difficult. I make a lot of illustrations and floorplans. As you can imagine I work a lot with groups and layers. For example: I draw the topview of a chair and put it on my artboard. I group all the lines and shapes that make up the chair. When I want to move it on my artboard, I want to select it with my cursor and Move tool. Unfortunately, it immediately opens up the group and just selects a section of the group located beneath the cursor. So I can not move my groups, unless I select the group in the panel layers, select the group and then move it by pushing my arrows. Or by selecting every item within the group that I want to move. Or I can right click a part of the object group and choose "select parent" to move the whole group. I tried holding down control shift to see if it selects the whole group, but that doesn't work. (I read this solution in this forum) Also locking the groups prevents me from moving it. Is there a setting that needs to be changed? Is it snapping, or grouping or something that I'm doing wrong? Or is it my hardware? I don't know as I'm just new to this software. So I hope someone can give me an answer. For your interest I've got a macbook Apple M1 Max, an magic keypad model A2520 and an older Wacom pen and tablet (intuous Medium, model CTH 680) Thank you in advance for reading my post Quote
GarryP Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Welcome to the forums @biophilic_designer I suspect that the problem here is that you have “Allow selection to consider items inside a group” set to ON in the Context Toolbar – see attached image. Try turning it OFF and see if that works better for you. Quote
biophilic_designer Posted April 28, 2023 Author Posted April 28, 2023 Such a simple solution and I couldn't find it yet. Thank you! This definately helps! Quote
GarryP Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 You’re welcome. (If it helps, you’re not the only person to have trouble with this, even just today.) Quote
