Ldina Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 I have an 80+ year-old photo of my mother that my brother scanned and sent to me. It was one of my father's favorite pictures of my mother. The emulsion in the photo is terribly damaged, curdled or reticulated (not sure what to call it), but it runs throughout the image. Also, there are some torn portions and some streaks. I have done some work on this image which I'm not entirely happy with (also uploaded), but I was wondering if anyone has techniques to help with this sort of damage. I'm mainly interested in suggestions to handle the reticulation in the emulsion, without clobbering the entire image. If I can even that out, it will be a great start. I've tried Dust & Scratches, Median Blur, Gaussian Blur, Motion Blur, moving into the Develop Persona and many other techniques, with varying success. I thought some of you photo gurus might enjoy a challenge and have some helpful techniques I haven't uncovered that will at least give me something good to start with. I'm uploading a full-sized TIFF scan of the damaged original, and a smaller JPG with my attempted repair (exported from AP v2.0.4). My repair job leaves plenty to be desired. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. pop_favorite.tif Quote 2024 MacBook Pro M4 Max, 48GB, 1TB SSD, Sequoia OS, Affinity Photo/Designer/Publisher v1 & v2, Adobe CS6 Extended, LightRoom v6, Blender, InkScape, Dell 30" Monitor, Canon PRO-100 Printer, i1 Spectrophotometer, i1Publish, Wacom Intuos 4 PTK-640 graphics tablet
v_kyr Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 The quick way would be to throw it through some AI based repair tool like for example ... https://jpghd.com/ VanceAI https://repairit.wondershare.com/online-old-photo-restoration.html ... etc. Where you still would need then to repair the dark neck parts with some of the Affinity healing tools and/or some brushing! thomaso and johdum 2 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Ldina Posted April 26, 2023 Author Posted April 26, 2023 @AffinityMakesMeSmile Thank you for the colorized version. That's quite a transformation from the original to this. Did you add a Recolor Adjustment, or did you use an AI website to add the color?
