Hi all,

I'm hoping someone knows how to wrap an image around a can image?

Id love to be able to wrap our Affinity designed beer can labels around digital images of cans for marketing ect

Thanks!

@BrewchaLibreBrewingCo I know how to wrap images around a digital cylinder but not with Affinity software. While Affinity Design or Photo certainly are very capable of creating the image to wrap on a digital can, something like Unreal Engine or Blender and other 3D programs would be a better tool to do the wrapping.

@iconoclast I just tried the Mesh Warp Tool and it does work as you say. So, resoundingly YES! This can be done in AP. I must admit, I am fairly new to Affinity and have not used the Mesh Warp Tool until just now.

Any tips? I haven't used the mesh warp before and reasonably green when it comes to this

If you have an object, e.g. a rectangle or a label you placed as a separate layer (e.g. the label you want to wrap around the cylinder), and you activate the Mesh Warp Tool, the object will get a frame around it. You can add nodes to that frame. E.g. if you double click in the middle of the top of the frame, you will get a node there. If you drag that node, it will warp the object. Every node has handles, like Beziér Curves have. You can use them for modelling the objects too. Every node will also create an axis with an opposite node on the other side of the object. If you select both, you can drag both at the same time, to warp both sides of the object simultaneously. Just test it out and you will understand.

Those are the basics about it. For closer informations follow anto's links.

@BrewchaLibreBrewingCo Just open an image and start playing around with the tool. Read the links. Should not take long to get the feel of it. Could get tricky to match the perspective of the photo of the can especially if the upper arc of the can bulges up and the lower arc bulges down. This might be the case if a close up was taken with a wide angle lens. Might be easier if they both bulge in the same direction. Maybe try a 80mm lens?
