DarienGS Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 We have a "Custom ratio" mode for the Crop tool. Can we have one for the Marquee tool too, please? Quote
DarienGS Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 Seems like it would be quicker and easier to just drag out the shape you want, no? Quote
DarienGS Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 Sadly I work with image frames of all shapes and sizes, so if I tried to work this way I think I'd have to create a new custom shape asset for almost every image? Quote
DarienGS Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 I do see that the crop tool doesn't permanently delete content that's outside of the crop frame, and that's great. Being able to review off-edge content by ticking the Reveal tickbox is a definite advantage over Photoshop. However, what I'm doing here is editing images to ensure that all the key elements are inside the frame. So I want to be able to manipulate content that's outside of the crop area, not just view it. In Photoshop this is very easily accomplished: I use the Marquee tool with the "Fixed ratio" option, pick a crop area and then mark its boundaries with guides. I can then edit to my heart's content, and apply the crop as the last step. I can't see a way to do this in AP2 that's anything like as easy, without the addition of a "Custom ratio" option from the Marquee tool. But I'm appreciative of any suggestions! Quote
DarienGS Posted April 22, 2023 Author Posted April 22, 2023 Alas, that doesn't work for me. I'm moving items between the out-of-bounds and in-bounds areas of the image, so I want to be able to see the whole image, and I certainly don't want the boundaries to be shifting. Really, I just want a simple way to create guides like this, that demarcate a custom-shaped crop area without applying it: Quote
AP2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 (edited) +1 to this request, it's the only issue I've found so far after purchasing and using Affinity Photo for a few hours. Thanks to another user's post, I can accomplish what I need but it takes 7 different steps instead of a 2 fields setting! Keep up the good work, thank you. Edited June 12, 2024 by AP2024 Quote
Carloes Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 +1 for this post! I'd even argue that this is a key aspect why I'm still using Photoshop and not just Affinity Photo. Quote
fde101 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 After dragging out the cropping rectangle to roughly what you want, you can type something like w*2/3 into the h field (or h*3/2 into the w field) in the Transform panel to adjust to the desired ratio (note that it may give non-integer values).
