I've been trying to copy an image from AD v2 to AP v2

I take a group of layers (9"x11" 300dpi image and two adjustment layers) and rasterize them into a single pixel layer. I then copy that layer to the clipboard, and when trying to create a new document from the clipboard, I get the following error.

"Cannot Create Document"
"The current contents of the clipboard cannot be used to create a new document"

I wouldn't think copying a rasterized layer from Designer would be met with an error like this. Shouldn't we be able to move content from AD to AP????

Am I correct in that AD does not have all the raster tools, such as dodge/burn ... I would assume AP still has tools that AD does not otherwise what would be the point of two different softwares.

Is this a bug or intended behavior? ...Thank you

Scott,

Designer also has a "Pixel Persona" which includes a subset of Affinity Photo's tools, including burn and dodge. So, one alternative is to simply switch to the pixel personal on the toolbar, use whatever pixel based tools you want, then when done, you can switch back to the Designer vector persona to do additional vector work, if required.

You don't need to rasterize first if you want to move from AD to AP. From Designer, go to File > Edit in Photo, and your file will then be opened inside of AP with the full complement of pixel based tools. You can then switch back to AD by choosing File > Edit in Designer. Designer's Pixel Persona is available even if you do not own Affinity Photo. If you want to use File > Edit in Photo, you must own Affinity Photo and have it installed on the same computer.

As an experiment, I also copied the unrasterized vector layers from Designer, then opened a new document in Photo and did a simple paste, and that also worked.

Hope that helps.

Remember, OP (Scott) is on an iPad, and, there is not this menu-commands ‘Open in Photo/Designer’ present - it is on the desktop version only…

When tested on my iPad Pro 12.9” ‘I’ve got the same error message in Photo when paste from clipboard…

Perhaps best to export/import instead…

Hi @Scott Prock,

Thanks for your report!

I can confirm there are currently 2 known issues between the Affinity iPad apps currently - firstly the 'New From Clipboard' option fails with the aforementioned error message when copying between apps, secondly when copy and pasting layers from one app to another within already created documents, these layers fail to paste and no error/warning is provided.

In both cases, the apps should be able to copy/paste/new from clipboard between one another and therefore these are logged with our development team to be resolved ASAP.

I will be sure to 'bump' these reports with your thread now to bring it to our teams attention once again.

I hope this helps :)

Oops, sorry about that. I completely missed that this was on an iPad! My mistake.

Apple sandboxing prevents this BUT there is a work around on V2 apps. Simply create a TRANSFER asset pack. In all V2 apps it will be visible on all apps instantly. So select your items, add to the TRANSFER asset pack, switch to the other app and insert from the TRANSFER asset pack in the other app.
