Limolb Posted April 18, 2023 Author Posted April 18, 2023 thanks for this Carl but that is not the issue. I get an error saying thee document contains languages (en-AU) for which no dictionary is installed. Word and other programs have no issues, even when typing this reply the spell checker is active as I type. any clues ??? Quote
carl123 Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 en-AU is Australian English If you want to type in Australian English, you will need to install that dictionary If you don't want Australian english you need to find the text that has that language applied and change it The Preflight panel might show you where that text is Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. walt.farrell Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 If you want to install a dictionary, this FAQ provides the information. It's for V1 but also applies to V2: The first post has instructions about where to put the dictionaries, and instructions for downloading them from GitHub. I recommend using the information about where to put them, but not downloading from GitHub as that is complicated to do correctly. Instead, you can download them from the second post using the links there, which will automatically provide the files in the right format. You just need to create a folder in the right location and move the downloaded files into it. lonan.oisin Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Hi I am wondering how I can not have to set the language for every txt box and instead have it apply universally to the whole document. If I follow the instructions above I would have to do this for every single txt box? Or is there another way? Quote

Create a new document, draw a text frame, and select the language you want from Character > Language > Spelling. Choose Edit > Defaults > Save and it will be your new default going forward. lonan.oisin 1 Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.3, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)
Old Bruce Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 Hi @lonan.oisin, Text boxes as you call the Text Frames do not have any actual text attributes. The language of the text box is going to be the language of the Text it contains. In other words, use Text Styles to set the language. lonan.oisin 1 Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I installed a dictionary as they mentioned and all is working as it should in all applications Walt / Carl. I thought I sent a reply earlier saying you guys were spot on. Looks like it got lost in the system (or I forgot to click on post like many emails I send but forget to push send ) but thanks all walt.farrell 1 Quote
