orangefizz Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 In the Quick FX tab, when I click the swatch beside "Color", either nothing happens or there is a long delay before the dialog appears—sometimes with a spinning beach ball. It sometimes only appears after nudging the mouse. Quote Mac Mini (2018) - OS X 10.15.7 - 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Staff Chris B Posted April 17, 2023 Staff Posted April 17, 2023 Hey orangefizz, It's pretty much instant for me. I've tried most of the options at least half a dozen times each with no issue. Do you have Metal enabled? Any chance of a quick screen recording? Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
orangefizz Posted April 17, 2023 Author Posted April 17, 2023 Hey Chris—just tested this again after test-restarting for a separate issue and the restart solved this issue too. Seems there are memory/caching issues with docs that had many edits. I'd guess this would be causing other app issues also. Metal mode is on, apparently. Staff Chris B Posted April 17, 2023 Staff Posted April 17, 2023 Thanks. In this case, I'll leave my documents open overnight and see if I can reproduce the issue tomorrow. It may be related to the other issue you've raised about switching tabs. Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
orangefizz Posted April 17, 2023 Author Posted April 17, 2023 It may be necessary to perform work on those documents—ie. a long history—vs just leaving them open. Something about long sessions on open docs seems to be causing lag. Quote Mac Mini (2018) - OS X 10.15.7 - 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Staff Chris B Posted April 18, 2023 Staff Posted April 18, 2023 Well I opened about 10 of my personal files, all with considerable History entries. I duplicated hundreds of objects, further increasing the amount of History entires before leaving my machine on overnight and I came back to it today and it definitely feels like things are responding slower but I am certainly not seeing a delay that matches what you have mentioned It's probably a combination of the type and amount of History you're getting in your docs. orangefizz Posted April 18, 2023 Author Posted April 18, 2023 I guess neither of those bodes well: the documents I was working with were small, I was simply doing a lot of editing, copying and pasting between two tabs over a couple of days. Selecting, drawing, painting, using brushes, adjusting brush settings etc. At some point I noticed just how long it was taking to switch between tabs (the topic of my other bug report) and that this color swatch dialog was similarly slowed to a crawl. At some point I'll restart the computer and see if these are related. Quote Mac Mini (2018) - OS X 10.15.7 - 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
orangefizz Posted April 18, 2023 Author Posted April 18, 2023 Bear in mind that it's not showing when I click, but take my word for it that I'm clicking around 1-2 seconds before the color dialog pops up. Sometimes the delay is much longer. AP color delay sm.mp4 Quote Mac Mini (2018) - OS X 10.15.7 - 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Staff Chris B Posted April 18, 2023 Staff Posted April 18, 2023 We've managed to reproduce this. I'll get it logged - thanks. Quote How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
orangefizz Posted April 19, 2023 Author Posted April 19, 2023 Turning off hardware acceleration fixed this. Chris B 1 Quote Mac Mini (2018) - OS X 10.15.7 - 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
