fa7bardh Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Hello I'm using Affinity Designer 1 and there is this outside selection in purple that i want to remove Is there a setting to turn it off or is this a bug ? I have added 2 screenshots, on one screenshot you can see the font in full screen with the outside selection and the other screenshot is zoomed in but the outside line is thinner now 1.bmp 2.bmp Quote
GarryP Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Welcome to the forums @fa7bardh Those purple outlines are the visible display of the snapping candidates. Search the application Help for snapping and click on the first result link you get. fa7bardh 1 Quote
GarryP Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 You’re welcome. (This issue is quite common for new users so please don’t feel too bad for not knowing about it; it's not an obvious function.) Quote

Only a user who knows what he is doing and what "purple line" means would turn on this function. Unfortunately, these unpleasant aspects of working with Affinity applications are completely below the discerning ability of developpers. v_kyr 1 Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.5.7.2948 (Retail) Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100.2605. GarryP Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 I would generally agree that “Show Snapping Candidates” might be better set to OFF by default, because I personally don’t use it very often, but I don’t know what the ‘bigger picture’ is. Even if the number of people who report some confusion about seeing the purple lines is in the hundreds, considering that the number of Affinity users is probably now in the millions, that’s maybe not such a large number. (I only see the users here in the forums and not elsewhere.) (The number of people who have asked for that setting to be OFF by default is probably way less than hundreds so what does that tell us about the real need for it to be OFF by default?) I would personally not be affected by any change in this as I already know what it’s about, so whether it gets changed is irrelevant to me, but I don’t know if changing that setting to OFF by default would make for a worse initial experience for more users than not. In other words, I don’t know how many people really like that feature and would not have found it if it were not switched ON by default. (I also don’t know how many people keep the snapping candidates switched ON after they have initially been confused by them.) PaulEC and R C-R 2 Quote
