Fruno Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Using Photo 2.04. When I add a new adjustment layer, it appears as a child of the active layer. Every video I watch shows adjustment layers being created as separate layers above the active layer. I prefer this approach. How do I make it the default behavior? Quote
v_kyr Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Welcome! See the online help about setable preferences options, there under Preferences -> Assistent options ... Quote Adding adjustment layer to selection—If you've created a selection, any adjustment applied to it is added as a new adjustment layer above the currently selected layer or made a child adjustment layer of the selected layer instead. With no layer selected, the new adjustment layer is added to the top of the layer stack. ... see also Toolbar and there ... Fruno Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 Thanks, I was able to get the adjustments to be added as new layers. I want the opposite to happen when with adding masks to existing adjustment layers. I make a selection, then, with an adjustment layer selected, I click on the 'Mask Layers' icon and choose 'Mask'. This creates mask as a new layer. I want the mask applied to the selected adjustment layer (as I've seen in various videos). In the Assistant Preferences, the 'Add mask layer to selection' is set to 'Add mask based on selection'. However, this creates a new layer for the mask. If the setting is changed to 'Add mask as new layer', well, again, a new layer is created. Is there a way to do this? The documentation seems to say there is, but it's not working for me. Quote

In the Assistant Preferences, the 'Add mask layer to selection' is set to 'Add mask based on selection'. That works as you require in version 2.1, currently available as a customer beta. (In case you are unaware, Live Filters, Adjustments and Fill Layers have a built in mask.) Quote

Not sure I've understood what happens instead for you when masking, if you explicitely add another mask to the Adjustment layer it should usually behave like this in V1 ... adjust_mask.mp4 NOTE that an Adjustment layer also behaves itself like a mask and thus can be masked on it's own here (with a brush drawn on that directly), without creating another mask layer! screencast-adjust.mp4 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
