psheld Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Hi, I create a square. I create a smaller square wholly within the larger one. I subtract the smaller from the larger to create shape A. I create a new shape B. I cannot get shape B to snap to the inside, so to speak, of shape A. Snapping candidates only appear on the outside of shape A. Any and all ideas welcome. Thanks in advance. Old Bruce Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 The solution is rather convoluted. You will need to be using the Node tool so both objects will need to be curves, not "Quick Shapes" (the Rectangle tool draws Quick Shapes). And you will nee to have the Align to nodes of selected curves or the Snap to geometry of selected curves turned on in the Node tool's Context toolbar. Now you will need to have Both objects selected (so the nodes are showing). Finally you will need to have all the nodes on the Shape B selected (they will turn solid blue instead of being hollow) by dragging a marquee around them, or by shift Clicking them, then you can grab one one of the solid blue nodes and snap to whatever on the Shape A. psheld 1 Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

If you are using Designer (or Designer Persona of Publisher), enable 'Snap to object geometry' in the app's snapping options and explore the Point Transform Tool [F]. That's one of the most powerful tools in Designer but many people overlook it. Quote
psheld Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 Thanks @Old Bruce. I'd love to say that you have changed my Affinity life, but your use of "convoluted" is most accurate! My goodness. I think I'd use the word clunky, and I'm fairly certain that I will rather change what I'm doing in the future than have to repeat this process. But I'm not shooting the messenger; far from. Thanks again. @,,,, thanks for the heads-up. I have found this page about the Point Transform Tool, but I cannot fathom for the life of me how it might be useful in the context here. ? Quote

I’ve attached a short video showing how to use the Point Transform Tool in this instance. Note: The times where I drag the corners of the smallest rectangle I also keep the right-button down on the mouse (it’s a different modifier key on macOS to use the “translate” functionality – see the Status Bar for more help). 2023-04-13 13-19-33.mp4 Quote
