Use the Gradient Tool, not the Flood Fill Tool.

You can choose between different types of fill via the controls on the Context toolbar.

That doesnt work here. Its not a single shape, its many lines that i have formed into letters. I have grouped each letter. It seems impossible to fill that.

You can only fill a closed or unclosed curve, not a collection of lines (regardless of whether they’re grouped or not). Choose the Node Tool and use the ‘Join’ option on the Context toolbar to join adjacent pairs of lines, and then optionally close the resultant curve.

Ahhh cool. That did the trick ! Thanks!

You have two end nodes that are only slightly overlapping (instead of being coincident) but that shouldn’t prevent you from joining that vertical line onto the rest of the E.
