Roman_R Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Hello, I have read here on Affinity forums that function to scroll trough Charachter and Paragraph Panels with mouse scroll wheel is disabled due to probable confusions with Panel's input fields, which also use mouse scroll wheel for adjustments. That is a logical decision. But I would like to use it anyway. I suspect that there are other users who would use it, too. So, my question is: is it possible to add function to activate mouse wheel scrolling for those two panels trough app Settings? Kind regards, Roman nicolasfolliot 1 Quote
MikeTO Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Hi Roman, it really would be a bad idea because it would lead to so many tech support questions. Imagine if you started scrolling the panel but the mouse moved just a hair while you did it and then you started scrolling the value in a field. This would be a dangerous user interface. I think the real solution is for Serif to change the way field values scroll. Most apps require that the field have focus for the scroll wheel to have any effect on it. If field values only scrolled when the field had focus then the panels could be scrolled. While I think this should be the only way it works, I understand that some people may prefer the current approach in which case your suggestion of a preferences option would make sense. Perhaps "Scroll field values only when they have focus" as a preferences option. MikkelJP Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 I completely agree with this statement. Anything that has a scroll bar should be scrollable by default and anything else should require direct engagement. As a Mac user; scrolling on values is practically useless because Affinity has such a hard time interpreting my mouse anyway. nicolasfolliot, Bryan Rieger and ronnyb 3 Quote
nicolasfolliot Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 As a Mac and former InDesign user, I've also been frustrated by this since the beginning of the Affinity era. I've always scrolled panels in Adobe and it worked just fine, there is no reason why Affinity wouldn't let us do so. MikkelJP 1 Quote
benam Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Perhaps it could be as a modifier? Some happy medium between the two. Like Shift + Scroll for adjusting the values, and Scroll scrolls through the panel. nicolasfolliot 1 Quote
Bryan Rieger Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I’d rather have the panels scroll than the input fields as I’m constantly having values change as I move my mouse around the UI. It’s definitely one of the more annoying behaviours I deal with in the Affinity apps everyday. ronnyb and nicolasfolliot 2 Quote
