In regard to your comment above, are you Alt+Clicking on the Parent group or a child group nestled within? 

It would really help if you could provide a screen recording to demonstrate your issue.

Ok, I misunderstood something. If I add a subgroup to a group and then click on the arrow of the main group with ALT, it opens the subgroup, but not without ALT. But I understand the function and it works.
