Selection bounds/vectors not showing on selection until zoom in/out

I’ve experienced issues where I’ve selected objects but no vectors or selection box appears. But, if I pinch to zoom in or out, they suddenly appear. Apparently, the screen refresh is failing on a simple selection, though not consistently. The second I force a refresh, the missing selection indicators magically appear.

This is happening sporadically for me as well. Same solution to fix it.

I have a few follow up queries below:

• Do you have any sample file(s) where you have encountered this issue on that we could take a look at?
• Is this an issue your potentially able to capture on a screen recording? 
• Could you confirm if you can replicate this issue on the 2.1 beta app? (more info: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/affinity-beta-program/)
• What is your iPad Model and iOS version?

It would also be worth checking if at the point at which you encounter this what zoom level you're set to in the navigation panel on your document in case that's related.

This is not an behavior Into the latest beta version of Affinity Designer (2.10 beta 1742) - everything is smooth and act as expected…

I’m on iPad Pro 12.9” with M1 cpu and iPadOS 16.5 beta1…

Not sure it's a sample file thing, it's pretty much anything I do will have this happen, but randomly

I'll try to capture next time it happens.

I can try the beta app, but I do vector art professionally and avoid beta versions for work. Hoping the update ends the problem

It's an M1 12.9 pro model.

I can look at zoom level, but the problem again seems to be a screen refresh issue without it being a common element like at a certain zoom. But I'll pay attention to that. It's more like a redraw failure at random times, where I am suddenly unsure whether I've selected or not. The second I zoom, forcing a redraw, the selection bounds show again.

I also experience this issue on all of my files, at random. However, I have also noticed this issue increases in frequency as the file becomes more complicated(ie; many layers with FX applied).

This is occurring for me in the beta as well, both the current and previous versions. The attached screen recording is from the 1743 beta.

Since this is something that you have been actively able to capture on the recording, are you aware of any steps towards replicating this, for example on a specific document at a set zoom level do the bounding boxes then fail to draw, or is this something that has just happened completely at random that you managed to capture?

Unfortunately this has been completely random for me for both 2.0 & the beta. Plus, it has only happened a handful of times, so unfortunately I don’t recall which documents I was working on, or what the zoom level was. If it happens again, I’ll check the zoom level and try to retrace my steps.

This happened again today and after doing some digging, I was able to recreate the issue.

In both the beta, and 2.0, if you double tap on the rotation or zoom dial in the Navigator Panel, the bounding boxes disappear. The beta does also reset to 0 degrees and 100% as expected.

Also, I’m not sure if this is relevant information, but I don’t actually use the Navigator Panel to zoom. Generally I just use the pinch in/out gesture, or the quick zoom button.

I've been able to consistently replicate the bounding boxes failing to redraw via the double tap on the Rotation/Zoom value within the navigator panel and have now logged this with the developers, many thanks for your efforts. 🙂

here we go, I managed to capture. Nothing to do with the Rotation/Zoom value, it simply stops. I started the screen recording when I noticed my selection vectors/bounding box were gone, leaving to start the recording and coming back did not fix. What the screen recording doesn’t capture is me tapping and tapping to select. You’ll see that when I zoom, the vectors immediately re-appear. I still see no rhyme or reason, it just… stops until I do the resize trick. But it’s frustrating, because it just happens randomly and I’m not sure if I missed clicking or the problem has come up again. But as you see here, no vectors no vectors no vectors zoom presto vectors. Fully up to date on system and program, I do so much production work I don’t like to work on beta versions.
