I am having no luck playing nicely with the TOC in Publisher.  The TOC is 4 pages long at this stage.  The document is a company procedure manual. The document is just over 100 pages.  I thought I understood what needed to be done to work with a TOC. So far the TOC is missing headers that should be showing up.  There are also headers showing in places they shouldn't.  In the attached screen shot the "SECTION 1: THE BASICS" should at the top of the 1's.  Show is just one example.  There are other similar issues throughout.

Also, I didn't notice until now, but are there supposed to be TOC 1 : Entry and TOC 1: Number?

I'm certain whatever is wrong is user error.  I was a Quark user for years, then InDesign, and now trying to get used to Publisher.

Help appreciated.  If I need to share more, I am happy to do so.

thanks in advance

Hi, it's hard to tell without seeing your document but the only reason I can think of for your Section 1 heading to appear after your 1.1 Our Culture heading would be if they're not in the same text frame. Everything in the same frame should be sorted logically. If you've placed some headings in separate frames then they'll be sorted by layer order so review the layer order and make tweaks as required. Affinity will process them from bottom to top of the layer stack.

Yes, you should have a paragraph style for TOC: Entry and a character style for TOC: Number. The latter is for the page number.

As for the entries that aren't showing up: That should mean that those paragraphs don't have the Text Style you think they have, or they have a Text Style you haven't chosen to include in the TOC.
