Donspark Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Hello and thanks from a first timer to the forum and AP! I have spent some amateur time in InDesign. Placing the PDF and setting the view or display to (High resolution?) was all it took and I could zoom to the max rez of the pdf, resize and crop. How do I zoom and see the max rez on a big PDF? I created an 11x8.5 400dpi(my max setting) doc and placed my pdf (4-5 times bigger than canvas) on the (canvas?) My PDF (13.7 MB 1 page very finely detailed) is a map showing elevations and lots of professional marks. Page Size: 1,270 × 1,016 mm (landscape), PDF Version: 1.6, Page Count: 1, https://savemountdiablo.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Mount-Diablo-and-Surrounding-Parks-Mount-Diablo-Regional-Trail-Map.pdf I need to be able to zoom to max rez, resizing, crop, and print to my color laser 🥾 🥾 🥾 🥾 🥾 🥾 🥾 Mount-Diablo-and-Surrounding-Parks-Mount-Diablo-Regional-Trail-Map.pdf Quote

But, when I zoom in, I want to see the most and best visual information. Currently when I zoom in with AP, it is less clear than I get loading the PDF into Firefox. More pixels? More sharp? I can read text easier? Sorry if I am still not maximally "clear" Edited April 1, 2023 by Donspark Quote
Hangman Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Hi @Donspark and welcome to the forums... The vast majority of your map uses vector graphics, the exceptions being the grey fill areas, e.g., Gold Course Rd (X6) Balfour Road (AC10 - AF14) Boundary Oak Golf Course (G11 - H12) and so on... I'm unsure why these don't use vector fills as well but my personally I would create them as vector fills (pretty straightforward). In addition... The Map Key (bottom left) The Map Cover (top right) The Mount Diablo graphic (top left) The Viist Concord Sponsor graphic (top left) Again, personally I would take the time to create these (with the exception of the photo on the map cover graphic of course) using vector graphics, ask Mount Diablo and the sponsor for a vector versions of their resepctive logos if they're not readily available. This would then give you a 100% vector graphic which you can scale to your hearts content without any loss in quality and effectively crop as required simply by changing the scale of the map on your 11" x 8.5" 400 dpi page... Affinity software doesn't have the same concept of setting the view or display to (High resolution) so in terms of your placed map pdf, if the non-vector elements (mentioned above) are not relevant and are sections you don't intend to print, what you need to do is to change the Passthrough mode in the context toolbar from Passthough to Interpret, that way, you will see the full resolution of your file and I think that alone will likely give you what you are looking for but if not let us know... Regardless, despite seeing a bitmap interpretation in Passthrough mode, your file should still print as you are expecting it to... firstdefence and Donspark 1 1 Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 Affinity Designer 2.6.2 (3213) Beta | Affinity Photo 2.6.2 (3213) Beta | Affinity Publisher 2.6.2 (3213) Beta MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
