I have a problem with footnotes: I can pace a document (from Word), and all footnotes are there, in the right place. When I format the footnotes (different font, spacing, tabs, etc.), sometimes, the last footnote of a page is showing on the next page (see screenshot). I have tried many things to bring things back the way they should (removed formatting, adding column break, moving things around, etc...) to no avail. There no pattern either: it is sometimes on the very last line (like in the screenshot), but sometimes much higher in the text. Sometimes when I have many footnotes, sometimes when I only have a few. It is difficult to reproduce, but when importing the same article and reformating things - I always end up with the same errors - typcially 3 or 4 for a 25-page article.

To be clear - no information is lost, the footnote is simply on the next page. It is important for me, as it makes the publication non-compliant with a number of academic rules.

Many thanks in advance for any idea on how to solve this - and congratulations for an otherwise very good software and vibrant community :)

I believe I've reported this before but I can't find it now. It's not specific to importing text from Word, you can duplicate it with a new document. Sometimes Publisher will split up the footnote marker and the footnote text into separate columns/frames to avoid big white space gaps. I believe others told me they prefer it this way to allow for better balanced columns but I don't believe Publisher should ever split up a marker and a footnote unless I tell it to do so, or unless there is absolutely no other option.

So I think this is a bug but I don't know if it's been logged as such or just as a feature request.

Cheers

I just tried it and it works great in 1730! At least it's great for those of us who like their markers and notes together. 🙂

For those who don't want a situation like this example with a lot of forced whitespace in the left column, uncheck Keep Paragraphs Together or similar Flow settings or enable Split Notes. Either of those would have kept the marker in the left column.
