I was working on a document for Affinity Designer 2 yesterday and I can't open it today. It takes forever to load and nothing happens. It just says a document is loading and then nothing happens. I am very dependent on being able to use this document in class on Monday, so I would be very happy if someone could help there. I never had these problems with Designer 1. If possible, someone could also convert this document again to the previous version, if that is possible, because I urgently need to be able to continue working. Affinity simply shows this message (see below) and won't do nothing. I even can't quit the app anymore and have to force a shut down.

Wow you're my saviour could you do that with the other 2 documents too, because like that I can open them again …

I still don' know where the problem is but your file opens without problem and mine on my Mac won't. So Garry If you can spare another few minutes you will make my day, because I invested hours in those documents.
Thanks a lot and if you're ever in Switzerland, I'll pay for sure your beer …

Hi @woj and another welcome ot the forums...

Same for me on macOS, the file open's instantly and likewise I don't have the MusGlyphs loaded on my system either, hopefully @GarryP's file will open for you but if not and you are on macOS try deleting the mru.dat file located here...

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Affinity Designer 2

Or in the Finder hold the Option (Alt) key and select Library from the Go menu and then navigate to Application Support/Affinity Designer 2, select the mru.dat file and delete it and then launch Designer and see if you can open your file

Hangman just got in ahead of me there – I could load those other documents okay too.

woj: It would be interesting to find out why they don’t load for you in the first place, but I don’t think I’ve got the knowledge/skills to be able to help with that.

Hi @hangman I thought about this too and was in the "preferences" and I the "application support" folder but I couldn't find nothing from Affinity (see screenshot)  … 

but thanks for your answer anyhow, you guys are great!

Phew, what a relief you saved hours of work and I'm back on track but with a suspicious feeling against Designer 2. So I think I'll go back too the old version … But thanks again to the two of you …

I'm on Monterrey 12.5.1 (on my Mac Pro from 2019) so perhaps an update will help. I'll have that done and report back to you. But the suspicious thing is, that yesterday everything worked fine… but wait a minute. I can't open @Hangman files but I can open the one from @GarryP. So I definitiv will run the system update know and be back with news soon …

It's strange you're not seeing any Affinity Application support folders, this is what I see on Monterey...

Strange but good you have @GarryP's files... I'm really not sure what is going on, as like for Garry, they opened instantly for me too... Out of interest, if you have Publisher installed are you able to open your original files there?

@wojMay be a silly question but you did try restarting your Mac didn't you?

Wow, now that is strange! Even after my update to MacOS 12.6.3 my own files and the ones from @Hangman won't open and I get this never ending loading process, which can't be stopped (only with "force quit"). But as soon as I open @GarryP's files everything is fine. And yes @Paul Mudditt I did all of the tricks I could think off: restarting, starting in secured mode, trying to import, and, and ,and …

Well, know I have to go on and finish my files (thanks again Garry). But thank you guys …

And just out of pure interest, after the update to 12.6.3, do you now see any Affinity Application Support folders and if you do, assuming there is one, does deleting the mru.dat file make any difference?

I'm not hopeful but it's the only thing I can think off... It's very odd that you can open Garry's Windows saved files but not the Mac saved versions...

The only other thing you could try is to reinstall Designer., I suspect that might remedy the issue for you, though no guarantees...

Hi All,

I'm having a Similar problem with 2 files. Designer 2 crashed and now I can't open the files even when I choose not to open the recovery file. I've reinstalled Designer but it didn't help. It just shows 'loading 1 Document' and nothing happens. I'm on MAC OS Monterey.

I couldn't see and Affinity Folder in my Applications support folder either?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Both documents open instantly for me. I just get a message about missing fonts (which is understandable and normal)

I have attached resaved copies of both files

Can you see if you can open these?

You need to ensure you're navigating to the correct Application Support folder, you likely have more than one. The one you're looking for is located here...

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Affinity Designer 2/mru.dat

Once there try deleting the mru.dat file and then relaunching Designer and see if that fixes the issue for you.
