I have created a carton with several layers that include a logo.

When I export as a pdf (for print) the image on the screen looks fine but when I send it to the printer and it prints out there appears to be a reduction in the colour the layer is.

The images show the original pdf that looks fine on the screen.

The other images are the resulting prints and the problems.

I did try and rasterise the whole image before exporting.... the pdf looked fine but then the print had a reduced colour the same as if it was a layer.

I just can't seem to see where the problem is.

I sent the pdf to a printer friend of mine who was able to print it direct from the pdf via Illustrator.

Any help or advice if welcome.

Phil

ps.... Im not a professional printer or designer so if there is a solution please keep it in laymen's terms ;) (sorry for spelling mistakes too)

You should maybe provide some more informations, like which Affinity app and version you've used, on which OS. - Also which color space you've setup in your document and which PDF export options you've setup/used when creating the PDF output.

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Sorry ... not familiar with all this but here goes..

Affinity Designer on Mac ... version 1.10.6

Not sure where I find/identify the colour space... says "as document"

PDF export is literally PDF (For Print)

Does this help?

Hi @The_TNC,

I can't try printing this myself until Monday, when i'm back in the office.  But a couple of questions, which app are you printing the PDF from?  If you are printing from Affinity, can you try printing the PDF from your PDF viewer and see if it prints correctly?

Also it may help if you can attach the .afdesign file as well.

If you click File>Document Setup>Colour it will tell you there :)

These are the different approaches I've done for the printing...

1-  Printing straight from Affinity Designer

2- Creating a PDF, saving that as a file.  Linking that file to Affinity Publisher as an image in a merge document...then printing.

3- Exporting from Affinity Designer as PDF (For Print) to a file and then printing from the PDF file.

4- Opening up the PDF in a Viewer and printing.

All have the same results.

I think it has something to do with when I make the layer opacity less than 100%.

I want to reduce it to about 50% but as soon as i do that it creates this opacity for the full layer block.  The example is where I made the opacity for half of the "swirl" to 50%.460467405_Opacityaddedtohalfoftheswirl.thumb.JPG.5e7634bc339df34526591e277ce3bb33.JPG2004304926_Noopacityaddedtolayer.thumb.JPG.c75edae329bda5f143f363c947e3da0a.JPG
