Ronald Tebra Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 I installed the hyphenation file for Dutch from GitHub. Installed it in the newly created folder in the library. Now when selecting dutch as the language and selecting dutch for the hyphenation, publisher crashed on this last action. The crash is repeatable. What is wrong? Quote
walt.farrell Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Ronald Tebra. If you downloaded directly from GitHub, rather than using the links in the second post in the FAQ article, you probably downloaded it in the wrong format. With direct downloads from GitHub it is very easy to get an HTML page rather than the required plain text. If you browse the hyphenation dictionary file with a text editor, you should not see HTML. If you do, that's your problem. stokerg 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. I know you've solved the issue with the help of @walt.farrell but do you happen to have a copy of the file you downloaded that caused the crash? If so, would you mind attaching it here and i can get something logged with the Dev team, as a crash is always unwanted behaviour. Quote
Ronald Tebra Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 Happy to share it. It came in with an HTML extension which I removed. Not aware of the fact that there could be html inside the file. hyph_nl_NL.dic stokerg 1 Quote
Nieck Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 MacOS 13.3.1 on a MacbookPro 16inch Publisher V2 The Dutch hyphenation will not work for me, Publisher keeps craching. I did follow the rules gives in this page https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Text/hyphenationInstalling.html?title=Installing hyphenation dictionaries In the Library/Settings I made a folder with the name: nl_NL From the page: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/LibreOffice/dictionaries/master/nl_NL/hyph_nl_NL.dic I copied the file hyph_nl_NL.dic to a text editor and saved it with the name: hyph_nl_NL.dic and put i the the new folder. Start Publisher and I can see the Dutch hyphenation but the moment I click on the name Publisher crashes. I also did the same as with the file: hyph_nl_NL.dic I copied from the github page with: nl_NL.aff and nl_NL.dic Copy them into a texteditor and save them under the name nl_NL.aff and nl_NL.dic I placed them also in the new folder and start Publisher. Publisher keeps crashing, can anybody give me some advice please. Thank you Quote

I generally recommend downloading the dictionaries from the FAQ that Serif provides, where the second post has direct links to usable copies of the dictionaries. If you download from Github you often get a file with the incorrect format.
