Dear Affinity team,

there are two functionalities I have used in V1 that I no longer can find in V2 (2.0.4 on windows):

  • In the presets there was the possibility to change the behaviour where filters are inserted. The normal behaviour is that a filter is inserted as a child of a picture layer. In my workflow I would prefer that the filter is inserted on top of the current layer even if it is a picture layer. In V1 there was a setting for this. I was not able to find this setting in V2.
  • When recording a macro I would like to group a series of layers. The following steps need for this aren't working in my version:
    • I can't select two layers. If I try to select a second layer with <cntrl>click this layer is selected but the other one deselected.
    • A layer can't be moved while recording. This is problematic if the first filter is inserted as a child of a picture layer and the second above the picture layer.

Thank you very much for your help

Hi @Jo Caribu and welcome to the forums...

With regards your first question, the option appears under the Assistant Preferences, there's an option for both Adjustments and Filters...

With regards your second question, someone else will jump in with an answer for that one I'm sure...

My experience of V1:
During macro recording you can only select one layer at a time using the mouse on the Layers panel
Using the Select menu you can record Select All Layers or Deselect Layers
Mouse selction of objects on the canvas fails

You cannot move Layers with the mouse, you are limited to the options under Arrange menu

Not much help but it is what it is

You are right. I tried it out. It is still the same behaviour in V2 as in V1.

Here is a way how it works (and I suppose i did it that way a long time ago in V1):

  • insert a new filter as a new layer
  • group this new layer (you get a group with a single layer in it)
  • select the layer with the filter
  • insert another filter

Thanks so much for your help. Sometimes one needs someone to put you on the right track.

Here's another lulu
This macro was recorded on a document with 4 layers, it simply selects the bottom layer
Now try it with a document with 8 layers and run it
Tada, not what you might expect
The answer and the rest of the messy story is here
