How select and blur the selection

Recommended Posts

I have an image.

I want to make a selection and blur.

I wanted to know if there was a better way doing than what I'm currently doing.

- I make a selection using the Rectangular Mask tool.

- Then choose filter -> blur -> Gaussian blur. (Increase Radius and hit apply.)

- To repeat again for other parts, I select and hit Ctrl Alt F.

I searched loads on Google and Youtube. The only instructions I come across are where they show how to select and image and then blur the background.

Is there a better way to what I'm going right now?

Thanks.

Depends what you want to achieve. You could instead use the Freehand Selection Tool (aka the Lasso), or the Selection Brush. You could then use the Refine button to tighten up your selection. You could adjust the Feather in the Contextual Toolbar (or in Select - Feather...) to help merge the edges of the blurred selection more smoothly into the unblurred areas of the image. And you could choose Layer - New Live Filter Layer - Blur - Gaussian Blur to give you a non-destructive, re-adjustable blur. But essentially you're not missing anything 😀

Affinity Photo 2.0.3,  Affinity Designer 2.0.3, Affinity Publisher 2.0.3, Mac OSX 13, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel.

Make a selection with the Marquee tool (I guess this is what you are calling the "Rectangular Mask tool")

Use the Context toolbar to change from "new" to "add".

Continue using the Marquee tool to select "other parts"

Then blur all the different areas at once.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

'non destructive' - it definitely needs to be destructive!

I'm blurring text that shouldn't be able to be unscrambled. LOL

It’s only non-destructive within the Affinity apps! The exported image file will have the blurring baked in, so it will be impossible to retrieve the original text.
