Welcome to the forum @Rita Wong

Sometimes EPS files can take a while to load, They shouldn't but some do.

Can you add the EPS file to the next post for us to look at?

< I can open the EPS files, it takes a while because there are a shed load of layers but the EPS file doesn't open like it should and looks very different to opening in Illustrator.

I think the problem will be all the gradient meshes. Affinity can't handle them because Affinity doesn't have gradient meshes.

I've exported the problem file that won't load in Affinity to various formats including Ai, SVG, PDF etc and they all come out wrong when opened in Affinity Designer.

From Affinity Designer opened as a PDF.

Affinity's EPS parser is pretty weak in parsing more complex EPS vectors which have been created by Adobe software here, since it only knows to handle a common limited EPS subset of what Adobe software function wise produces here. Thus most EPS vector things from stock sides created and generated by Adobe software wouldn't be interpreted in the same manner here, or can't be interpreted right at all if they do contain a lot of Adobe proprietary specificas.

Due to the above said, it's often needed to also have a capable and good vectorizer/tracer at hand in such situations, in order to make at least quickly something reusable out of the bitmap representation of such istock drawing stuff then.

Third-party developers cannot access the Adobe file formats' proprietary space unless they license an API for a lot of money.
