I needed a really large span graphic behind for a layout and thus large margins. However, in Designer, the margins are not adjustable above 400px? (I tried also in Publisher) Manual typing in a value above 400px doesn't work either. I needed the additional margin for the column guides to line up. Not sure if this is a bug or by design?

I think the margins in the Guides dialog are the same margins that the document has

and in File > Document Setup you can set margins larger than 400px, which then show up in the Guides dialog

Not sure why you can only do it this way to get values larger than 400px

Very bizarre! These were on art boards so I didn't think about Document setup again, but indeed it works! There is a similar limitation such as Layer > New Pattern Layers being locked to 1024px in Photo through that dialog. And yet we can make any size we need using a rasterized rectangle and turn that into a Pattern Layer. So I'd hoped here it was the same, just an limitation input, but not functionally...

The only other option I could've thought of would have been to change units, but I couldn't in this case.

FWIW, in AD version 2.0.4 on my Mac I can enter > 400 px margin values in the Guides Manager window regardless of the values I set in  File > Document Setup, even ridiculously large values like ones much greater than the canvas or artboard size.

Maybe just a Windows limitation or bug?

It is probably an old bug, affecting all 3 apps on Windows only, takeover from V1.

This was one reason for me to switch from Windows to Mac in the hope to get into a better place - only to find out there are many Mac-specific bugs.

So just like the Pattern Layer bug then 😂 Maybe the Mac guy and the Windows guy should meet up for lunch more often? We gotta make sure these bugs work cross platform...
