Sometimes I can't delete adjustment layers with the "Delete" key on the keyboard if I've selected the adjustment layer and the pop-up window with the controls is open. In these cases I can only delete it by clicking on the trash can icon.

I've had this happen, it's a bit random and I've never worked out why.

I have found that Adjustment layers can be deleted by way of the Delete key only if the layer is selected by clicking on the right side of the layer (on the text part) rather than clicking on the thumbnail (which opens the adjustment settings). If the adjustment settings are already open, I believe one has to click the layer off the thumbnail and then hit the Delete key. Of course, if the adjustment settings are open there is usually a Delete button within the settings panel itself and you can click on that, too.

I think that's part of it. But even with the adjustment settings dialog open, I think it's related to where the focus is. If you have not clicked within the settings dialog, the keyboard focus is still in the Layers panel, and in that case (for me) the Delete key works. Once I've clicked in the settings dialog, though, the Delete key stops working unless I click back on the layer in the Layers panel. (But the Delete button in the dialog works, as you mentioned.)
