wesselgaz Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) Hi! Someone designed a logo for me, but I want the logo to be cut out from the yellow background. I hope you guys understand me, sorry. The person who designed the logo asks extra money to do this for me, which I do not think is neccessary because there are nice people who can probably help me, FOR FREE! I want the black 'K' transparent, surrounded by the yellow square. I found some tutorials online but that was with text and it didn't work. Can someone help me? Thanks soo much! Hangman Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Hi @wesselgaz and welcome to the forums... You ideally need to ask the person who designed and created the logo for you to provide it in a layered vector format, for example, request it as a .ai or .eps or .pdf file, that way the file provided to you 'should' allow you to turn off the yellow background and isolate the 'K' element so you can use it as required and scale it up or down with no loss of quality... From you screengrab it loos as though they've provided the logo as an Image (raster based) file (a .jpeg or .png file) and while it is possible to remove the yellow background from the file, it's not ideal when the original will have been created as a vector file providing way more flexibility. The creator should have no issues at all providing the logo in the format you request, i.e., as a vector file in one of the file formats listed above... Ask for a Vector .PDF The logic was more to allow @wesselgaz to be able to open the file in a vector format considering it is very basic in terms of its construction, so really just covering all bases as anyone asking for more money to remove the background is somewhat taking the michael in my opinion as it involves zero work in real terms... Hangman Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 So, if you open one of the vector files (which file formats do you have?), then you 'should' see several different layers when you open the file. If you have Affinity Designer then open the file using that rather than Affinity Photo. In the layers panel you should see a yellow background layer as well as one or more layers making up the black 'K'. If you simply hide the yellow background layer then that should give you what you need. What is it you want or need to do with the logo once removed from its yellow background as that may determine what you do next. If you don't want to attach the actual logo file, please post a screenshot of Affinity that includes the Layers panel with any Groups or Layers unfolded. Quote
nickbatz Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 If you didn't have the original file, Select Sampled Color would isolate the background or the logo to cut and paste onto a new layer. Turning it into a vector is also pretty simple in this case. Quote
wesselgaz Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 I did it!! Thanks guys! Hangman, Old Bruce, nickbatz and 1 other 4 Quote
