Antoine_neth Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 After recently upgrading the Affinity suite from version 1. to 2.0 I had to add the Dutch dictionary again. Not a big problem, but... soon I found out that all adjustments (learn or ignore spelling) in my existing text files were gone. It took hours to restore all my existing text files. Today I installed the beta version 2.1 of the Suite and lost all my customizations again! Is this a flaw in this app or did I miss any instructions on this subject? (This doesn't make me happy to say the least!) Quote

Words you Learn are stored in a separate file, which depends on the OS you use. For Windows, they are in dictionary.propcol in the user directory (which is in different places in V1 and V2 (and in 2.1). I can give more details if you're on Windows. For macOS they are someplace else, as it is more integrated with the OS there. Words you Ignore are saved within the document itself, so you shouldn't be losing them. Antoine_neth Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 Thank you, for your very Quick response! My OS is Windows 11 and from the previous version of your app I indeed found several .propcol files. In the enclosed screendump you can see the place and the content of the directory. Can you please tell me how and where to place the correct files (not all I suppose) in my system? Thank yhou very much in advance! Propcol.pdf Quote
walt.farrell Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 If you're only concerned about the dictionary then you just need dictionary.propcol. From your screenshot it seems you've found where it lives in 2.0. If you want the one from V1, the FAQ below will tell you where to find it: The 2.1 beta copy should be in the same directory structure as the 2.0 version, except the path name will have 2.0 (Beta) instead of just 2.0 in it. Antoine_neth Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 Thank you again. Sorry, but one more question from this layman: Can I just copy (all) the propcol files tot the same directory in the new version of the app? Or can I than disturb / (or do harm to) the app? Quote

Or can I than disturb / (or do harm to) the app? Yes, you can. However, it is not a supported or recommended (by Serif) operation, as far as I know. So keeping a backup copy of the original files would be appropriate. I cannot see that the dictionary.propcol file would cause any problems. I don't know about all the others. I've done these kinds of things on my machines, but as I say Serif would not recommend it. And I'm always prepared in case it causes issues.
