I'm going to try to make this as straightforward as I can.  I was in the process of creating a document from an IDML file.  I did not realize that I needed to take out all the collateral that I would be replacing (ai files) before I quit work for the day.  Saved the afpub document, but did not close the application.  Now every time I try to use Pub.2 It freezes and quits because--that file keeps coming up.  I have now moved the file to trash, but is this what is causing the problem?  I need to know so I do not reproduce the problem and have to redo all the other work like I will have to on this file.  Attaching the problem file.

I'm having other problems, but will address those separately if I cannot figure out a solution.

Hi Jill, you might be able to open the file properly with the 2.1 beta. There was a linked resource issue in 2.0 that appears to be fixed in 2.1.

Also, you might be able to open the file properly in 2.0 if you first renamed the linked resources (or the folder(s) containing them). Don't relink the resources at startup or go to the Resource Manager. Find the linked resources in the document, delete them, and place the files again. That should solve the problem.

Cheers

Thanks MikeTO.  I am downloading the Beta. By not linking the resources do you mean embedding them (I was told I should be linking them because of the size of my documents). I cannot get the files to stay open to fix what is already there.

Oh, how I wish I had time to listen to hours and hours of videos.

ust wanted to let everyone I am still looking for help on this.  I have tried several things, and they all work for a while then Publisher 2 crashes.

Did you try to do that already?

If you hold down the control key while launching publisher and then hit the clear button does that improve the situation?

Thanks to both Seneca and Anto.  I have tried your suggestions, and I have successfully opened the document I uploaded and deleted all the resources I don't want (except 1 which I cannot actually locate).  I completely don't understand what I am doing wrong, so if anyone from Affinity can help me, I'd appreciate it.  I have watched videos, but I do not see what I am doing differently.  I am on mac (fairly new computer, with intel chip) and latest operating system.

Hello Jill,

This could be a long shot but I've noticed that you have a few files created by Adobe Illustrator (extensions .ai) and linked in Publisher.

Can you try to resave those files in Affinity Designer and relink them in Publisher and see whether that helps?

Best of luck.

When I bring something in as IDML the ai files are there.  I did try to remove them before I created the IDML, but that didn't seem to help.  Not that it isn't part of the problem, but that I tried to triage it and it wasn't fully a solution because it kept happening.  I think part of the problem is the once upset, Publisher won't settle down.  Ha ha, more psychological than technical explanation.

I've been looking at your file and so far haven't had any crashes in 2.0.4, I don't have any of the linked resources available and I went through the document deleting any .AI files I could find and saved to a new file. So far all is well, so it may be related to external files, try moving any files you're going to be linking in a document to local storage. Such as a folder on the desktop first and then link them to see if you still experience issues.

If you use the 2.1 beta and have any issues, crashes etc with it please post in the dedicated 2.1 beta section. That's the only place 2.1 issues should be reported to keep them separate from the public release.
