Darner Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Hi For Affinity Photo V2. Not sure if a bug or maybe just never tested in larger image resolutions before V2 launch. Looks like the Twirl Distort just cover a small part of the image in max radius, when at a certain document size. In this case 6144 x 4088 px. See video. I'm aware of Liquify Tool as alternative, even not all same. Be great if you could increase the radius of the Twirl Distort effect so it covers the whole image also when larger resolution. Thanks Twirl.mp4 Quote

Thanks Twirl.mp4 Using the slider you can raise up to 1024, but generally parameters are not limited by the sliders. You can for example type 6000 into the numerical box and get a larger twirl. Hopefully Affinity will include higher value in the Twirl bar adjustment. As part of the charm is to slide fast between different results. Another thing just noticed, maybe you're familiar with this Paul: Destructive "Filter Twirl" creates very different results (good) compared to none destructive "Live Filter Twirl" (bad), which leaves open gaps. See images. Perhaps something for Affinity to look into. Quote
Paul Mudditt Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Actually, if you put the images side by side and do a destructive filter and a live filter twirl the results are actually the same, the difference we first saw was something to to with edge pixel spreading or gaps being content aware inpainted. Thanks. Tried same picture side by side, and with similar settings, but unfortunately different results. Gaps in one, no gaps in the other. See previous attachments. Not sure what it is. Have MacBook Pro intel with Radeon Pro. Newest updates on Mac OS and Affinity Photo. Quote

Sorry not making myself clear, try placing an image on a blank transparent canvas and leave some space around the image, you will get similar results then. Top image live filter, lower image destructive filter. Makes sense in some cases maybe. Sorry as well if I didn't make myself more clear. Was looking for a way to get the result as shown in pic 1 "Filter", but by using "Live Filter". In this way achieve none destructive Twirl effect covering the entire image (in this case 4824x2844 px), without gaps or background on the whole picture. Hopefully Affinity Team will understand and get a fix on it. Thanks anyway for your feedback! Quote
Paul Mudditt Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 Ok, but I don’t think there will be a non-destructive way, here I demonstrate what the destructive filter is doing by taking your live filter image, selecting the black/blank sections, growing the selection and content aware fill in those spaces. Since there is no live inpainting option I doubt it will be possible unless you initially crop your image or extend your image with some additional data around the edges to drag into the twirl.
