Improper grouping and nesting of elements

I recently upgraded to the version 2 of affinity designer. I have always had good things to say about the software, but lately I have noticed that the buggy behavior persists when importing .ai files or .eps files created in other programs. 

The problem is frustrating enough to mention this and I am convinced that it is a bug. Please look at these two files. They are simple. I opened the file originally and grouped all like elements together in Adobe Illustrator CS5. When I go to import, I am either not selecting the correct settings, but whatever I try I seem to get a file that has completely messed up layer groupings that make no sense. 

Please advise and let me know if I am being an idiot or if this actually IS A BUG.

I see what you mean about the groups being messed up, I got the exact same odd grouping in V1 and V2 so I thought I would try the only other software that I have that can import AI files and vectornator opened it completely flat with no groups at all.

On a positive note it was very easy to fix by removing the groups and remaking them.

Thanks. Yes I am on windows so I only have access to windows software. I was finally able to go in and group everything tediously in AI, then export each graphic as an individual piece. This just seems like a piss poor integration with illustrator. I dealt with this in version 1 and hoped this would be fixed in version 2 of Affinity but it doesn't appear so. If you start creating assets in Affinity all is well, but I use other assets created by other people who use Illustrator etc. so I feel like this is a major let down of Affinity.

Sorry I fixed this in Affinity and it took less than 30 seconds? I simply ungrouped each shape, then used a selection of each shape then pressed ^G to reform the groups correctly. Not tedious at all.
Had you not previously grouped your shapes in AI already or does AI not work that way ?

Why do we bother posting on this forum if anything negative about the software is just going to get suppressed?
There were valid points raised, just not sure why they get suppressed. A little cut up about that, but what are you going to do?

Nothing has been suppressed in this thread

You posted in the bugs forum and it will be treated as a bug (unless proven otherwise)

Give the support staff time to address the problem.

They have many threads and issues they have to work on so don't expect immediate solutions, things take time around here.

Just report the bugs as you find them and move on. There's nothing more you can do.

Seemed more like a bug in Adobe Illustrator export to me, when two other independent softwares do not see the grouping you expected I blame the export method from Adobe not the import into Vectornator or the import into Affiniity.

Seems like it could be an Adobe problem going by this thread, seems to be quite difficult to group layers correctly in Adobe Illustrator. At least it is trivial in Affinity (34 seconds) to correct the problems that Adobe causes.

Maybe take this up with the site you bought "Cactus Sketch Set" from seems to be available from many locations. as a poorly grouped EPS file and others.
