VinylDinosaur Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 When using publisher and switching to the designer profile to add text onto a curve, I have found that the curve doesn’t disappear after I added the text. This doesn’t match how adding text to a curve works in affinity designer or affinity photo. Can you please test this out and let me know if you need precise replication steps. Quote
GarryP Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 I believe this is by design – Designer makes the curve invisible and Publisher keeps it visible. You can make the curve invisible in Publisher by changing the Stroke in the Text Frame Panel. Paul Mudditt 1 Quote
loukash Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 My "semi-educated" guess is that this is "by design", not a bug. It's because the curve becomes a Text Frame attribute when it's been converted to text-on-path object. Since neither Designer nor Photo have the Text Frame panel (and that's definitely "by design"), there the stroke/fill attributes must be removed, otherwise they wouldn't be editable at all. Whereas in Publisher (incl. its StudioLink personas), it doesn't have to be removed because you can always edit or disable it via the Text Frame panel. VinylDinosaur Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 @loukash @GarryP thanks for clarifying this for me. Maybe it would be nice to hide the stroke by default. Quote

That would probably be something for a feature request rather than a bug report. Maybe a new preference option in Publisher, since some people will expect/need the current behaviour. Note: It’s usually better to ask a question first before filing a bug report – just in case the thing you are wondering about not actually a bug. Otherwise the staff have to spend time looking through bug reports that aren’t about bugs, time that could be better spent looking at actual bugs. loukash and PaulEC 2 Quote
VinylDinosaur Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 @GarryP I’ll keep it here since I’d called it a usability issue. I need to load up a “Designer” profile, and then that designer profile doesn’t act consistently with the main app. I’ll look to search the forum more broadly in future for advice. Quote

You don't need to switch to the Designer persona to create text on path because exactly the same functionality is available directly in the Publisher main persona as well.
