The large orange bug in the almost center of the live preview is doubled.  Can’t say how this happens. I’ve deleted it and reinstalled it several times and it seems to be a problem with the half drop design.  This is not the first time this has happened with v.2  not sure I’ve seen it in version 1.  Please fix.  Please.BF80C36F-1DA1-4F34-8F3E-7EA5507B19C9.thumb.png.a58135860105ac94fd938a561bcde8e2.pngI

Hi,

the layer structure and symbols are a bit messed up. You have a copy of the yellow bug, but it’s Position does not match exactly. It may have been moved by mistake.

i would suggest to deactivate all but one of the tiles, and carefully check that all symbols are positioned properly.

Your designer file has several issues:

  1. the artboard called „pattern“ does not match the size of the symbol, the green rectangle, and the jpeg image
  2. the symbol is not clipped to e.g. an rectangle
  3. the symbol tiles overlap, leading to the unwanted „doubling“ effect

I would advise to make a clear plan about the intended exact size of the tiles.

  1. Use pixel as units for the document.
  2. set the size of „pattern“ to exact square. All parts need to be clipped, see below.
  3. add a rectangle of same size to symbol (no fill, no stroke)
  4. move all layers with into this rectangle to get everything clipped, avoiding overlap
  5. when using the tiles, place them as exact multiples avoiding fractional positions.

patterns / tiles require perfect planning and implementation. The slightest mistake will bite you.

As you are using raster image as background, Photo might be better suited for the workflow.

it is of 400px square.

the symbol has 3 sections:

  • left
    • Edit content as child layer of ellipse.
    • It will be automatically replicated in 3 areas, left center, top right, bottom right
    • Purple arrow is example content
  • right:
    • Same as above in opposite positions
    • green arrow as example content
  • no edge:
    • add all content which stays inside tile,
    • does not get replicated
    • red double star as example

i hope this helps.
template can be adjusted to different dimensions.

I had a detailed look this file yesterday and agree with the points that @NotMyFault has made.
liking the design and all the bugs but the original tile does not map out correctly. have a look at the work of Weronika Salach who has been featured on AffinitySpotlight but also has a YouTube Channel and site here

Symbols are great for producing seamless patterns but it is also necessary to contain the elements within a rectangle. If you need something to flow off | repeat off edge just duplicate it and slide to opposite edge position and use transform for precision. Hope it helps!...

This is the template I use for brush base textures. Was not a fan of off-setting the base pattern onto a separate artboard. It is set up for 400 x 400 px symbol repeats. Each symbol just contains a container rectangle. (Black) but usually set to none. Adding objects inside will reflect on the adjacent symbols so you can easily build a pattern with other vector objects (bugs). The shape does not necessarily have to be a square but it need to be precise. The grid reflects the symbol size > the rectangle symbol

It is pretty basic but works I built all my brush patterns around it!
